Herbs that Deepen + Support the Yoga Practice Saturday, February 17th, 11:00 am to Noon, $40 per couple
In this 1 hour workshop community herbalist Laura Baum, owner of Laura's Botanicals and founder and organizer of the Richmond Herbalism Guild, will introduce participants to herbaceous plants that, when taken in whole plant form, have therapeutic and scientific evidence based support. For a deeper and more supported mindfulness practice, herbs are very important, and there are specific folk herbalism strategies that many modern yogis can benefit from. The plants discussed will be talked about in great detail and with gratitude and respect. We will discuss each plants ideal growing conditions so participants can explore them in their habitats. Participants can sit on their yoga mats in a comfortable position facing the herbalist for this talk portion and then the class will end with a hands on workshop where participants can add dried herbs to a bowl to make their own community tea blend. Participants can take notes.
Laura Baum, community herbalist and owner of Laura's Botanicals, an apothecary and learning studio located in Oregon Hill. The herbal mentorship is a learning program that upon enrollment runs 6 months to a year depending on the students needs or professional endeavors. The main project is the development of a Materia medica (a book of research and observations made on a single medicinal plant) and mentees have opportunities in lecture style learning with the herbalist and conversational style learning with other participants in the program and at community events. Mentees get 1:1 online support and discounts on apothecary goods to assist their studies.
